  • Discovery Circumstances: Numbered Minor Planets

The official discovery circumstances for the numbered minor planets are maintained by the Minor Planet Center. The discovery details are available via the links on this page and have been split into batches of 5000 consecutive objects for ease of access (each file is roughly 500K) [a text file containing the ASCII data for all the numbered objects is also available (also available in GZip format)]. Also available is an alphabetical list of minor-planet names and statistics on the individual discoverers and most prolific discovery sites.

A collection of citations for all the named minor planets is given in the Dictionary of Minor Planet Names by L. D. Schmadel and published by Springer-Verlag.

These lists were last updated on 2024 Sep. 3.
